Collaborating for Change: OSJRP’s Partnerships to Promote Equality and Justice: The Open Society on Justice Reform Project (OSJRP) aim to set an agenda for the poor and vulnerable persons and groups in 2024

As 2024 begins, Open Society on Justice Reform Project (OSJRP/OSJ Reform) is set to facilitate access to effective and efficient justice for all, especially for the poor and vulnerable persons and groups (being an organization dedicated to addressing the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals and communities). OSJ Reform partners with various stakeholders to realize this object by implementing programs and initiatives aimed at advancing the welfare of these groups and reforming the justice sector.

In 2023, OSJRP set an ambitious agenda to improve the lives of the poor and vulnerable, and they were determined to make a difference. They knew that this would not be an easy task neither could they do it alone, but they were committed to addressing the needs of disadvantaged individuals and communities. OSJRP began by collaborating with various stakeholders, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, and community groups, to implement programs and initiatives aimed at advancing the welfare of these groups effect lasting change in the society.

Currently, OSJRP is collaborating with Project Alert on Violence Against Women to implement a project themed: “An Integrated Response to Advancing Justice and Accountability for SGBV Survivors in Lagos State”. The project, which is supported by Open Society Africa, is a comprehensive approach to addressing the issues of SGBV in Lagos State. It is focused on ensuring that justice is obtained for survivors of SGBV by utilizing existing legal and judicial instruments and frameworks and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.

The project seeks to create stakeholders’ awareness of the various pathways to justice and accountability for SGBV survivors and perpetrators in Lagos. It also aims to build the capacity of legal and judicial officers to respond to SGBV cases and ensure that justice is served for survivors while holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.

The project would facilitate the implementation of a police station and court monitoring system to ensure accountability and transparency in obtaining justice for SGBV survivors in the state of Lagos. It is hoped that the project will go a long way in ensuring that justice is served for survivors while holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.

One of the OSJRP’s main objectives is to advocate for policy changes that will positively affect the lives of marginalized individuals. They aim at working tirelessly to lobby lawmakers and policymakers to pass laws that would improve the lives of the poor and vulnerable. They will also  provide legal aid and support to those who could not afford it, ensuring that everyone has equal access to justice.

OSJRP also focuses on raising awareness about the issues faced by these communities. They will organize community forums, workshops, and seminars to educate people about the challenges faced by the poor and vulnerable. They want people to understand that poverty and disadvantage are not just individual problems but also societal issues that required collective action.

OSJRP advocates for policy changes that positively impact the lives of marginalized individuals, provides legal aid and support to those who cannot afford it, raises awareness about issues faced by these communities, and collaborates with other organizations to effect lasting change. In 2024, OSJRP will be accepting cases of victims and survivors of Sexual and Gender-based Violence.
